Myopia
You can see near, but not well far. It usually first appears at school age, around puberty and grows as the child grows. A nearsighted person usually squints to see far. We consider low myopia up to 3 degrees, medium up to 8, and high myopia above 8, where there may be damage to the eye itself
Farsightedness
In hypermetropia, one does not see well either far or near, but when it is long enough. This happens because our eye has some mechanism to correct it when it is relatively small so that it does not create a serious vision problem. It is more often associated with conditions such as strabismus (the eyes change), lazy eye, etc. In children, hypermetropia usually decreases as they grow older
Astigmatism
In astigmatism, one does not see the dot clearly, and has the feeling that it looks like a line or sees rays around lights. Although here too the eye tries to use the same mechanism as in hypermetropia, it does not succeed well enough and thus does not have good enough vision either far or near
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a normal development in eye sight, and involves the inability of someone to read up close, around the age of 45
The exact time of appearance differs from person to person and is related to whether there are any of the above vision problems (myopia-hypermetropia - astigmatism)
